UTS Union Function Centre
In generating our proposal for a new University Union Function Centre we started with the idea of a simple roof plane sitting over the existing rooftop of UTS Building 10. This roof plane is then informed by the site and context pulling up and opening out to the north east views and orientation and then modified to reinforce the corners. The tilting planes to the north allow sightlines to the sky from the existing atrium as well as maintaining winter solar access into the atrium space. The tilting planes to the south allow southern light into the function centre space. The internal function spaces are then informed by the alternating tilting planes to create a series of coffered spaces.
The effect to both streetscape and atrium space is a varied rhythmic roof form.
