Hugo Cottier Profile

Hugo Cottier | Associate Director

Hugo’s approach to architecture is grounded in developing strong collaborative relationships with the client and project team.

He has worked on several high profile projects such as the Helensvale Library and Community Youth and Cultural Centre for the Gold Coast City Council and the Armory Wharf Cafe for the Sydney Olympic Park Authority. Both these projects have received several significant awards and peer recognition, and demonstrate the high level of his conceptual design abilities. They also reflect his thoughtful and methodical approach to architecture and capacity to produce well resolved and finely detailed buildings.

Hugo enjoys the challenge of taking projects from inception through to completion. His background in furniture-making underpins his interest in the language of materials and surfaces and their relationship to structure and assemblage. Hugo is known for his ability to consider the implications of construction, detailing and tectonics from the early stages of design. He gains particular satisfaction from seeing the final building occupied and used by people in both intended and unforeseen ways, providing them with memorable spaces and experiences.

Hugo joined lahznimmo architects in June 2006 after graduating from the University of Technology with First Class Honours. Prior to this, he worked for four years at Allen, Jack and Cottier Architects on a variety of large scale housing developments. He was appointed an Associate Director of Lahz Nimmo Architects in 2011.
