Andrew Nimmo Profile

Andrew Nimmo | Director

Nominated architect #5627

Andrew is an industry leader who is highly respected for his significant contribution to the field of architecture. He is known for designing memorable public and education architecture, and for his astute observations on current industry issues through his involvement in architectural criticism and journalism. He is regularly invited by his peers to share his insights at industry events, and through his role as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney.

Andrew is known for his expertise in urban design, masterplanning and public placemaking for projects such as the Humanities and Science Campus in Canberra and the Armory Wharf Precinct in Sydney. He is regarded as a leader in research and design of libraries and collaborative learning environments, and for his understanding of the interrelationship between learning, space and technology. His ground-breaking work with the Main Library at the University of New South Wales has been presented at a number of Library conferences, both in Australia and overseas.

Andrew believes research into how people interact with architecture can lead to genuine innovation in design. He is also particularly interested in the resolution of architectural concepts through innovative detailing to built reality. Rather than imposing a design solution, he listens carefully to his clients to thoroughly understand their needs and guides all stakeholders to a consensus on the design that is best for them.

Andrew graduated from the University of Queensland in 1987 with honours. Prior to establishing lahznimmo architects in 1994, Andrew was a senior project architect at Tonkin Zulaikha Architects and was the Project Architect for several significant award winning projects. Andrew sits on a number of Design Review Panels and writes for major industry publications. He is a past President and life fellow of the NSW Australian Institute of Architects.
